5:30 – 7:30 pm
Location TBD- Stay tuned!
“There’s no perfect evaluation, just the one that’s the right fit for this evaluation’s purpose, user, and use.” Tom Chapel, CDC’s chief evaluation officer and AEA board member, says some version of this in every “Eval 101” course he teaches. Indeed, “utility” is one of the five standards by which we judge our evaluations. Until recently, we only had four standards: utility, feasibility, propriety, and accuracy. In 2011, the Joint Committee on Standards in Educational Evaluation, the body that has set the standards for program evaluation generally (not just in education) since 1994, added “evaluation accountability” to the list of standards we evaluators are expected to uphold.
On February 2, 2016, Sarah Gill (AaEA’s past president) and Ko Hassan will lead a discussion about our newest standard. We’ll talk about how we document our work as well as how we adopt a meta-evaluative approach to ensure that our evaluations are the best fit possible and in keeping with standards. In light of trends away from formal evaluation reports and toward more tailored methods for disseminating findings, the question of how we document our work is particularly salient.
Mix and mingle at 5:30 pm. Programming starts promptly at 6:00 pm.
The event is open and free for members and nonmembers.

Decatur, GA 30030
On Friday, December 19, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted—for the first time in its history—a stand-alone resolution supporting the field of evaluation.
The resolution, entitled Capacity Building for the Evaluation of Development Activities at the Country Level, acknowledges 2015 as the International Year of Evaluation and asks each member country to take two landmark steps: (1) strengthen its capacity to conduct evaluations, in accordance with its national policies and priorities, and (2) report back to the UN in 2016 on the progress it has made. This second step is especially important, since it provides a visible, tangible incentive for countries around the world to improve their evaluation capacity over the next two years.
AaEA plans to have a discussion on Thursday, February 26th regarding what it means to be the UN Year of Evaluation.
See you at Twains!

This event will be all about reflecting on AEA Summer Institute and preparing for the AEA Fall Conference. We know there were tons of workshops at AEA this summer that you were sad to miss, and you will probably struggle (like the rest of us) to decide what to attend this fall. So why not kill two birds with one stone and get together to talk about the sessions we attended and give each other advice on what/who to look for in the fall conference program. We hope to have copies of conference materials from every session to share! This session will be presented by Sandy Templeton and Christopher Peasants.
When: Tuesday August 19th 12:30pm-1:30pm
Where: Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, 2641 Buford Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30324
